MOUNT PULASKI -- Betty Jackson, 75, of Mount Pulaski, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at 4 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

No visitation is scheduled.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Pulaski Cemetery, with Bill Shanle officiating.

Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Jackson worked as a waitress at the bowling alley in Mount Pulaski.

She was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Mount Pulaski to Chester and Margaret Ellenburg Utterback. She married Robert E. Jackson on Jan. 19, 1953, in Mount Pulaski.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, JaneEllen (and Randy) Morris of Beason and Doris (and Byron) Helton of Mount Pulaski; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, John (and Shirley) Utterback of Mount Pulaski.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret Sue Challons, and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois School for the Blind or the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.

LINCOLN -- Mary A. Werth, 88, a resident of the Christian Village Nursing Home, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at 11:40 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Peters officiating. There will be no visitation.

Committal of ashes at New Union Cemetery will be private, for family only.

Mrs. Werth was a registered nurse.

She served as a U.S. Army nurse at Fort McClellan in Alabama.

She was born April 8, 1916, in Logan County to Herman and Georgia Shay Heinzel. She married Donald F. Werth on May 10, 1941, at Anniston, Calhoun County, Ala. He died March 22, 1993.

She is survived by four sons, Thomas Werth of Yalaha, Fla., Fredric Werth of Mount Pulaski, Franklin Werth of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mark Werth of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gretchen Neville of Lincoln.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ede Lodl.

She graduated from nursing school at Brokaw Hospital, Normal.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, to which memorials may be made.


Elizabeth Schaub

LINCOLN -- Elizabeth Schaub, 90, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at 10:50 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Julie Azbell officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Schaub worked at the Lincoln Garment Factory for 60 years.

She was born Oct. 16, 1914, at West Salem to William and Roxanne Walker Elkins. She married Fred Schaub on May 30, 1930. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna Holton of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Jim (and Cindy) Holton of New Holland, Kim (and Jay) Carlson of Lincoln and Tim Holton of Lincoln; one great-grandson, Jason; three brothers, Jim Elkins of Downey, Calif., Bailey (and Gladys) Elkins of Lawndale and Jack (and Ann) Elkins of Port St. Locie, Fla.; and two sisters, Bertha Kraus of Phoenix, Ariz., and Geri (and Wayne) Lowman of Cape Cora, Fla.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Delima; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Carlson; two brothers, Burl and Doc Elkins; three sisters, Beulah Sutherland, Dale Fields and Lucille Buesking; her parents and her stepmother, Catherine Elkins; and a son-in-law, James N. Holton Sr.

She was a 30-year member of Moose Lodge Auxiliary.

She loved to quilt and sew.

Donnie Merreighn

LINCOLN -- Donnie Ray Merreighn, 64, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 11:17 a.m.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with an Eagles service at 6:45.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Darrell Garrett and Pastor Jacob Skelton officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in New Union Cemetery.

Mr. Merreighn was a meteorologist at Fort Sill, Okla., for the U.S. Army. He later taught meteorology at Fort Sill.

He was born Aug. 29, 1940, at Lincoln to Wilford and Beulah Bradley Merreighn. He married Phyllis Koch on Feb. 14, 1990, in Lawton, Okla.

He is survived by his wife, of Atlanta; one daughter, Felicia Merreighn of Sanford, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Lisa (and Steve) Bowns of Atlanta and Amy (and Mark) Aughton of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Paige and Cody Aughton of Lincoln, Ashley Collins of Atlanta, Courtney Satterfield of Atlanta, and Steven and Colby Dugan of League City, Texas; three sisters, Cheryl (and Chuck) Feese of Springfield, Norma (and Bill) Langley of Decatur and Teresa (and Rick) Caplinger of Lincoln; one brother, Bobby Merreighn of Lincoln; and two stepsisters, Janie (and Larry) Voyles of Lincoln and Donna (and Glen) McCrea of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen; one brother, Billie Merreighn; and one stepbrother, Butch Kinney Yeazle.

He was a member of Lincoln Church of God, Lincoln Eagles Lodge 2708, American Legion Post 263 and Lincoln Sportsman Club.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army with five years in Vietnam, where he received a Bronze Star for meritorious service, and 15 years in Germany and Korea. In addition, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal Third Award, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, five Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal Unit Citation, and the Vietnam Service Medal with eight Service Stars.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln Church of God.

LINCOLN -- John M. Montgomery, 58, of Lincoln, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 10:20 a.m. at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.

He donated his body to medical science.

Burial will be at a later date at Richmond Grove Cemetery, rural New Holland.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mr. Montgomery worked at Lehn & Fink in Lincoln and at Burwell Car Wash as an attendant.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He was born Dec. 6, 1946, in Lincoln to Robert and Margaret Engelbrecht Montgomery.

He is survived by his mother, of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a member of New Holland United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 715 of New Holland, Greenview Masonic Lodge and the National Rifle Association.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
