[February 13, 2009]  At the close of Tuesday's committee-as-a-whole meeting, Lincoln Mayor Beth Davis-Kavelman announced that she had received and accepted the resignation of City Clerk Melanie Riggs. The mayor announced that she appointed Deputy Clerk Susan Gehlbach to the duty of acting city clerk.

The council then went into closed session to discuss the selection of a person to fill a present office.

The city of Lincoln has on its next "order of business" agenda to vote on a recommendation to the Logan County Republican Central Committee for Gehlbach to be a candidate for city clerk in the general election on April 7.

The council normally meets on the first and third Monday of every month, but because of the holiday on Monday, the next meeting will be on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. in City Hall chambers.

On the same evening, kitty-corner across the street in the Logan County Courthouse, the Logan County Board will reconvene for its adjourned session at 7. One of the matters that is expected to come to a vote that evening would be to fill the District 6 seat that remains open. The seat was vacated when Michael McIntosh became the Logan County state's attorney on Dec. 1, 2008.

At the close of Thursday night's Logan County board-of-whole meeting, board chairman Terry Carlton announced that he would be bringing forward a name to fill that seat.

After the chairman recommends someone, it is up to the board to vote on that person. A majority vote is needed to seat someone.
