This
beautiful flag is artwork by West Lincoln-Broadwell students and has been given to American Legion Post
263 in Lincoln. The blue backdrop for our nation's 50 stars
and the red stripes are handprints of children in
kindergarten through fourth grade, and every student in the school signed the flag. The Legion will have the flag mounted and covered with Plexiglas
so that it can be on display in their hall for years to come.

Beverly
Buhrmester
captured on
camera the
controlled burn
that took place
at Kickapoo
Creek Park on
Monday morning.
Park staff
waited for ideal
conditions and
notified the
fire department
before burning
began. Gentle and
steady 10-15
mph out of the
south was right
for this southeast segment of
prairie located
at the front of
the park. A team of
five men set a
backfire that
first burned a
containing swath
along the south
edge. Then the
primary fire was
set along the
west edge.
Rapidly
spreading flames
rolled eastward,
moving faster
than a person
can walk,
burning the
entire segment
in an awe-inspiring time
of less than 15
minutes.
