"I get by with a little help from my friends." Above, the young lady was struggling with an elusive hot dog, but with a little help, the dog finally made it to the bun.

This is just one scene caught during the community night at Melrose Park Thursday evening. The park was indeed a fun place to be with plenty of food and opportunities to play with real police cars, fire trucks and dump trucks.

An artist's rendering of a proposed 625-foot Ferris wheel, billed as the world's largest, planned as part of a retail and hotel complex along the Staten Island waterfront in New York. The attraction, called the New York Wheel, will cost $230 million. Officials say the observation wheel will be higher than the Singapore Flyer, the London Eye and a "High Roller" wheel planned in Las Vegas. Beyond the wheel is the Manhattan skyline. On the lower right is the Richmond County Bank Ballpark, home of the Staten Island Yankees.

Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein reacts as he talks to reporters before the Cubs' baseball game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Even for a team with a record of futility unmatched in professional baseball and, heck, all of professional sports, this season has been one of the most dismal in Cubs history. About the only good thing that could be said about a team poised to lose 100 games for the first time in 46 years -- one of which came after the shortstop trotted off the field thinking there were three outs instead of two -- is that it is doing so in front of fewer fans than any other year in the last decade.
