At
the Tuesday evening meeting of the Lincoln City
Council, aldermen learned that the Tropics sign,
if they approve, will be placed in the parking
lot at the new McDonald's Restaurant being built
at the Corner of Woodlawn Road and Lincoln
Parkway this year. Bill Thomas, representing the
restoration committee, said that the owners of
the McDonalds have agreed that it would be
proper to return the sign to as close to the
original restaurant as possible. Thomas also
presented a plan for raising the near $60,000
that will be needed to complete the restoration
project. He noted that first, they need to get
the city's stamp of approval so that that the
location can be listed and included in future
grant applications as well as fundraising
efforts. The city was also asked to contribute
approximately $17,000 to the project, possibly
from the hotel/motel tax revenue. The committee
consisting of Thomas, Tami Goodrich, Alderwoman
Michelle Bauer and Tourism Director Bill
Hoagland presented a timeline to have the new
sign dedicated in the spring of 2018.
