LDN -- Top Stories

On Saturday the Mount Pulaski Courthouse celebrated Abraham Lincoln's Birthday with a special afternoon of activities. Among the events was a talk in the upstairs courtroom featuring Abraham Lincoln and Mentor Graham. Though Lincoln was an adult when he lived in New Salem, he befriended Graham, the town’s school teacher and took advantage of the teacher's knowledge to further his education on an informal basis. On Saturday, Graham spoke about school days in the early to mid-1800's. The school in New Salem/Petersburg was a "blabber school." Graham explained the concept and put it into practice on Saturday using the audience as his students.
