Lincoln
Police Officer Cpl. Maurice “Mo” Johnson has
some fun with the first girls to get in line for
the ‘Girls on the Run’ practice run on Tuesday.
It didn’t seem Cpl. Johnson had any luck
convincing the girls that they needed to run 10
miles to complete their 5K that day. They
laughed.
Five Lincoln school chapters - Carroll Catholic,
Central Elementary, Northwest, Washington-Monroe
Grade, West Lincoln-Broadwell - met at Kickapoo
Creek Park on Tuesday afternoon to warm up and
practice together. The girls will be going to a
large regional celebratory 5K Run at 10 a.m. on
May 20th at Lincoln Land Community College.
Girls on the Run emphasizes social development
and self-confidence blended with physical
activity for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Tuesday’s
race was launched with a Lincoln Police squad
car and Lincoln Fire Department fire truck in
the lead. Loads of family were there to cheer
them on.
See more photos and learn more about this
self-affirming program Thursday.
