Lincoln Street Superintendent Walt Landers told Lincoln Aldermen Monday evening that work is nearing completion on replacing the electric traffic lights downtown with stop signs. He said the new stop signs are on black posts to fit in with the street lamps and are a cantilever style with the street name signs mounted at the top of the pole and the traditional 'stop' sign below.

Landers said that the change is completed at the intersections of Pulaski and Kickapoo Streets and Pulaski and McLean Streets. The city is currently working on the replacement project at Broadway and North McLean Streets and will do the signage at Broadway and North Kickapoo last.

He also reported that the street lights, which were somewhat broken and would only flash red at the intersections, were costing the city several dollars for electricity. That will now be money saved in the future with the new signage.
