For the third time, the Friends and Family Relay for Life team has received the award for the most money raised in a year for the American Cancer Society. The award is based on all money raised in the state of Illinois over the past 12 months.

The money raised by the team is the direct result of the efforts of the community to support the Pink Pumpkin Auction held annually on the first Thursday of October.

The award was sent to the office of Lincoln Daily News to team co-chairs Karen Castelein and Nila Smith. However, both agree that the reward does not belong to them or the team, it belongs to the generous people of Lincoln and Logan County who donate items to be auctioned and those who bid and bought those items.

The 2025 auction brought in $25,000 for the American Cancer Society.

The Pink Pumpkin Auction Committee consisting of Cindy & Irv Guyett of Collision Concepts, Noah Adkinson of Lincoln Printers, Castelein, Smith, and Angela Reiners of Lincoln Daily News, Jennifer Luckhart of Nuthatch Hill BBQ, and Annie Coers of Tremont Bank wish to thank the community for its support.
