2016 LOGAN COUNTY FAIR

LINCOLN DAILY NEWS July 29 - August 6, 2016 Page 267

The Brad Aper Tribute Team of

Scott Semple, Brad Wibben, Matt

Beasley, and Larry and Nancy Aper,

participated in memory of Brad Aper,

last year’s second place winner who

died in a car accident April 8, 2016.

Semple said, “Brad liked this chili. We

use Brad’s recipe and try our best

to follow it from looking at photos.”

Semple said the chili is “a nice blend of

spices and peppers that make it bold

but not too spicy.”

Logan County Fair Chili Cook-off

Rounding out the first year entries were Jim

Byrge and George Lacefield, friendly rivals who

shared a table at the cook-off.

Byrge said, "I use my dad's recipe and he passed

away in 2008." Byrge said, "I added to his recipe

and it has my special mix of seasonings and a

little bit of heat to it. I think all chili needs a little

heat."

Lacefield of Patriot Chili, said "my chili is not your

average Joe's chili. It is sweet with just a little

kick at the end."

Marco's Chili Emporium with James Abbot, was

in the cook-off for the second time. He had last

entered in 2013. Abbott said, "Years of trial and

error helped me come up with a recipe. It is

medium, not too spicy."
