[DEC. 4, 2003]  A group of local investors headed by central Illinois businessman Bill Brady has reached an agreement to purchase WHOW-AM and WHOW-FM in Clinton. The group plans to begin broadcasting as soon as possible.

WHOW-AM 1520 is a 5,000-watt station that covers an 80-mile radius and will serve the towns of Clinton, Maroa, Wapella and DeWitt County. WHOW-FM 95.9 is a 3,000-watt station that will serve the same communities.

"Our intention is to bring local radio back to Clinton and DeWitt County," said Brady.

"We are happy to announce that Jim Sauers will serve as general manager. Jim has served a popular area radio station in several different capacities and prior to that helped operate another station in central Illinois that is similar in size to Clinton.

"Jim will next be hiring a local news director, sports director and other key people to make the station work for the area.

"The communities need a place for news, and the businesses need a place to promote their products," Brady said.

The group will operate under an agreement with the Federal Communications Commission and the former operator, Jim Livesay, pending the transfer of the license to the group.

"Mr. Livesay has been working with us to make the transition as easy as possible," Brady said.

The AM signal will be in operation before the FM is back on the air. Improvements are still being made to the FM.

"We are excited to make these announcements, and our new station manager should have more information soon," Brady said.
