[DEC. 2, 2003]  This year's Christmas parade, themed "Christmas Past, Present, & Future," will be in downtown Lincoln at 6:30 Thursday evening (Dec. 4). Brian Ash, 2003 president of the Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce board of directors and president of Logan County Bank, will serve as grand marshal. Lincoln's annual holiday parade is co-sponsored by the chamber and the city.

In addition to the earlier starting time, a new parade route will be introduced. The parade travels north from the corner of Wyatt Avenue and Kickapoo, turns east on Pulaski Street, north on McLean, west on Broadway and continues west to Sangamon Street, where it heads south to the finish in the parking lots of Carroll School and Logan County Health Department.

"Participants can access the parade lineup from the chamber's website at www.lincolnillinois.com or by calling the chamber at 735-2385," said Bobbi Abbott, executive director of the chamber. "With close to 100 entries, we encourage participants to arrive early to prepare for the 6:30 p.m. starting time."

Spectators are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys for the Marines' "Toys for Tots" program. Local volunteers will collect the toys during the parade.

Parents are invited to bring their children and their cameras to The Oasis, 501 Pulaski St., immediately following the parade for visits with Santa.

CITV Cable 5 will delay-broadcast the event during the month of December.
