House panel approves over $3 million
for Illinois River projects
Energy
and water appropriations bill now heads to House floor

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Peoria, a member of
the House Appropriations Committee, announced Tuesday that the panel
has approved the energy and water appropriations bill for fiscal
2004. The legislation includes over $3 million for several projects
within the Illinois River basin, including $1.5 million in
construction funds. The legislation now heads to the full House for
consideration.

"The Illinois River,
with its tremendous value to our economy, our recreation and our
environment, continues to be a top priority of mine," said LaHood.
"I am pleased we were able to include significant funding for
projects throughout the watershed. I will continue to advocate for
the important projects we have been working on up and down the
river, including Beardstown, Peoria and Pekin Lake."
The committee-passed
version of the fiscal 2004 energy and water appropriations includes
the following projects:
Illinois River 2020
$1,500,000 in
construction funds for projects along the Illinois River
$504,000 in general
investigations
Peoria Lakes
$600,000 in
engineering and design funds for the Peoria Riverfront Development
Study
Beardstown
$100,000 for a
reconnaissance study of providing access to Beardstown Harbor
