[OCT. 8, 2003]
The Logan County Habitat for
Humanity is looking for eligible families to own renovated or newly
built homes. An orientation meeting for future home applicants will
be Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1140 N. State
St. in Lincoln. People interested can come learn more about the
opportunities and requirements to receive one of these homes.

In August the Logan County Board
donated a property that Remax realtor Greg Brinner found. Brinner is
a HUD representative. It is the next house that the group will
tackle and renovate from house to home. That house is located at
1409 N. Kankakee St.
Habitat is taking applications for this
and other future homes at this time. Past applicants are encouraged
to reapply. If they have applied in the past, they need to update
their application. Only new applicants and people reapplying will be
considered for future homes.
Once applications are received, Habitat
will schedule an orientation to meet and evaluate applicants.
The philosophy behind Habitat for
Humanity is to help families that might not be able to acquire the
financing by any other means to own their own home. Applicants must be
willing to "put in sweat equity" to be eligible. The house is made
affordable by all-volunteer work. The group's purpose is "not to
provide handout but a hand up."
