Many sites will close at 4 p.m. instead
of 5 p.m. Outdoor sites such as Lincoln's New Salem will close at 4
p.m. during November through February because of darkness. Some
other sites will close at 4 p.m. because visitation drops off
dramatically in late afternoon during the winter, and staff will use
the 4 to 5 p.m. hour to maintain the site's collections.
State historic sites reduced their days
of operation Sept. 1, 2002, as a result of budget reductions
contained in the fiscal 2003 budget enacted by the Illinois General
Assembly. Most sites are now open Wednesday through Sunday and
closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
