[SEPT. 8, 2003]  SUGAR GROVE -- The Lincoln College men's cross country team placed fourth Saturday in an eight-team field at the Waubonsee Chiefs Invitational, with Harper College taking the title.

Freshman Clint Wombles was the top runner for LC, with a ninth-place finish in a time of 29:20 for the eight-mile race. Other placings for Lincoln College were Ryan Maisenbacher (Williamsville), 16th in 31:11; Mario Willbourn, 18th in 31:12; Jordan Gerard, 21st in 32:16; Mark Shannahan, 22nd in 32:22; Rob Dudgeon (Olympia), 30th in 32:55; and Russ Holstine, 39th in 35:22.

The women's team title went to St. Francis College. Lincoln College was unable to field a full team, and therefore did not qualify for points. Three Lynx runners were in the field, with Jeanie Mills finishing the 5K race in 21:45, good for a seventh-place finish. Toni Ortega (Pekin) placed 12th in 23:04, and Mary Daum (Illini Central) placed 17th in 23:20.
