Harris on Friday was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of the Raymond "Rick" Gee family.

Harris will face life without parole and will be back in Lincoln on July 19 for sentencing.

The trial, which began in late April, was held in Peoria County after the defense contended that the case had too much local publicity and that finding an impartial jury would not be possible.

Christopher's brother, Jason, entered a plea deal and will be sentenced to 20 years in prison for his accessory role in the murders.

In the new school year, students of District 27 will have at least two new books in their library, thanks to the Book Club of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln. The club donated copies of the award-winning children's books "The One and Only Ivan," by Katherine Applegate, and "This Is Not My Hat," by Jon Klassen, to the district. Canadian singer Justin Bieber's former pet, a capuchin monkey named Mally, stretches out his tongue in a quarantine room at his new home in an animal park near Hodenhagen, northern Germany, on Friday. Mally was seized by German customs on March 28 when the 19-year-old Canadian pop star failed to produce the required vaccination and import papers after landing in Munich for a European tour.
