Starting Monday, July 27, the railroad crossing at Governor Oglesby Drive in Elkhart will be closed for railroad construction. The work being done is in conjunction with the Illinois Alton to Chicago High-Speed Rail project. A detour route will be available to get in to town.  The route will include taking the Mine Road just south of Elkhart.  Signs should be posted to guide the way.  The crossing is expected to be closed for several weeks, but the engineering firm, Milord Company, has promised it will re-open by September 1st.

The Lincoln Community High School Class of 1949 recently presented the Oasis Senior Center with a donation of $500. The donation will earn the class a spot on the Senior Center’s Reflections Plaque.

According to George Wilmert (pictured left) and Gene Paxton (pictured right) at the Class of 49 Class reunion, attendees agreed that they wanted to be remembered not only as individuals but as the Class of 49. Gaining a spot on the wall was one way they would be able to accomplish this.
According to Wilmert and Paxton, “The 49’ers chose the Oasis because it does so much for the seniors of our community and the 49’ers wanted to be a part of this.”

The donation was accepted by Oasis Executive Director Dom Dalpoas (pictured center).
