Lincoln aldermen take action to accommodate outdoor dining on city property

On Tuesday evening, the Lincoln City Council held a special voting session to discuss actions to accommodate outdoor dining and serving areas for local bars and restaurants.

The city vetoed one-way traffic in the downtown area. They approved allowing each establishment to fence off three parking spaces in front of their establishments, with additional spaces available if neighboring businesses are in agreement.

Shay parking lot and the Pekin Street parking lot next to the library may be utilized by businesses where that would be the most convenient such as Sorrento's and Guzzardo's, but again with only three spaces allotted to start.

The city will provide up to 200 feet of snow fencing, traffic warning signage and barricades around the dining areas. City owned picnic tables may also be provided.

All businesses will receive letters from the city of Lincoln, outlining the provisions and restrictions.

By order of the governor, restaurants will be allowed to open for outdoor dining only starting this Friday, May 29th.

LDN will have additional coverage on the topic in its Thursday edition.
