Lincoln Rotary Club project
During National Education Week, the
week of Nov. 18-22, Lincoln Rotary Club members will be visiting
kindergarten classes in the area. During these visits they will read
to the children from the book "Look! I Can Read!" Susan Hood is the
author, and illustrations are by Amy Wummer. Each child will receive
a copy of the book to keep.
The story is appropriate for beginning
readers. It uses simple stories composed of very few words to a
page, along with colorful pictures which help the child figure out
the words used. Children will find that the story expands their
interest and excites their imagination, providing them with
encouragement to expand their efforts in beginning reading.
The schools Rotarians will be visiting
are Adams, Central, Jefferson, Northwest, Washington-Monroe, Carroll
Catholic, Chester-East Lincoln, West Lincoln-Broadwell, Zion
Lutheran and Emden Grade School. Approximately 250 books will be
distributed to children.
Rotarians involved in this project are
Joe Ryan, Brittney Redding, Rich Montcalm, Bob Wilson, Rick Hamm,
Barb O’Donohue, Bonnie Young, Joe Runyon, Dayle Eldredge, Marty
Ahrends, Chris Graue, Deb Ackerman, Darren Humphres, Wally Reifsteck,
Linda Marini, Lynn Laughlin, Ed Stanfield, Don Jordan, Bob Jeckel,
Mary Bruns, Harold Jeckel, Linda Schneider, Art Rohrer, Doug DeMay,
Bob Kidd and Keith Leesman.
Funds for this project are derived
from Rotary sales of oranges and grapefruit.
