Women

DIXON -- Lincoln College opened the women's basketball season with a 71-56 victory over Sauk Valley here Saturday afternoon. The Lynx will be at home Tuesday against Carl Sandburg.

Sauk Valley held a 26-24 lead after the first half, before Lincoln College poured in 47 second-half points to race to victory. The Lynx used balanced scoring in the second half, as Erica Ernst led the way with 13 points, followed by Jessica Hamman and Jehnyah Leach with eight each. Brittany Ingram chipped in with seven second-half points, and Erica Rodgers added six.

Ernst led the Lynx with 19 points, while Ingram finished with 10. Nine of the Lynx players cracked the scoring column for coach Carl Wilson.

Shiaras led the Sauk Valley scoring with 19, and Bach added 14.

Men

POPLAR BLUFFS, Mo. -- Three Rivers defeated Lincoln College 69-61 in the opening game of the season for the Lynx here Saturday night. Three Rivers built a 43-30 lead by halftime and the Lynx were not able to recover.

Three Lincoln College players were in double figures, led by Aaron Williams with 12.  Rodney Williams tallied 11 points and Tony Gulley had 10 for coach B.J. McCullum.

Three Rivers also had three players in double figures, with Terrence Smith leading the way at 11 points.

Three Rivers made 16 of 27 field goals in the first half, shooting nearly 60 percent. The Lynx limited the hosts to just 29 percent shooting in the second half. Lincoln College shot 31 percent the first half and 36 percent the second half. Three Rivers had a commanding edge on the boards, 50-27.  

Free throws helped keep the Lynx in the game, as they hit 21 of 35 shots while the hosts were making 12 of 21.

Sunday afternoon Mineral Area shot 57 percent from the floor as they handed Lincoln College a 72-59 loss in the TRCC Classic. 

Jeff Carlson led the Lynx with 16 points, including four 4-of-4 from 3-point land. The only other Lincoln College player to reach double figures was Aaron Williams with 10.

Lorenzo Gordon topped the Mineral Area scoring with 16 points.

Lincoln College stayed in the game in the first half by making six of seven shots from 3-point range; however, they were able to make only six of 24 shots from 2-point range.     The Lynx finished the game shooting 31 percent. From 3-point range, they shot 47 percent. 

Mineral Area also out-rebounded Lincoln College 44-34.  Rueben Trotter and Jason Moore led LC with eight boards each.

The Lynx (0-2) will open the home season against Carl Sandburg Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
