NORMAL
-- With consultation from university officials and Illinois State
Director of Athletics Perk Weisenburger, head coach Denver Johnson
lifted the suspensions of Redbird football players Ramon Barber,
LaShawn Bullock, LaMonte Jones and Ray Robinson.

"We have acted as judiciously and
swiftly as possible in ascertaining the facts concerning this
incident," Weisenburger said. "These four young men did not break
the law and therefore have not been charged. We believe in these
young men and have empathy for what they’ve had to endure for simply
being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"I’d also like to commend coach Johnson
on his diligence and leadership for the manner in which he handled
this situation."
Johnson and Weisenburger met with the
four players Monday evening and asked the players to submit
statements to Student Dispute Resolution Services on campus Tuesday.

"It was determined that Ray, Ramon,
LaShawn and LaMonte did not violate any team policies, and therefore
the indefinite suspensions have been lifted," Johnson said. "All
four guys are back with the Redbird football team, where they
belong, and they will start helping their teammates prepare for an
important game this Saturday."
The Redbirds
return to action on Saturday, when Illinois State begins its Gateway
Football Conference season against Northern Iowa. Kickoff is slated
for 1:30 p.m. [See
