[SEPT. 25, 2003]  ST. LOUIS -- Illinois State sophomore Mike Stegeman walked away with the Gateway Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week award Wednesday after the Redbirds amassed 482 yards of total offense in their 21-14 win at No. 18 Eastern Illinois.

The Redbirds, who are currently ranked No. 23 in The Sports Network/College Sports Television Network poll, legged out 267 yards rushing in the win with Stegeman anchoring the effort on the line.

The Chatham, Ill., native played 86 snaps at left tackle and posted 11 knockdowns without a missed assignment or allowing a sack. He also paved the way for the game-winning touchdown as Demetrus Johnson’s 49-yard run went off his block on the off-tackle run.

Stegeman and the No. 23 Redbirds return to action on Saturday for the first of two consecutive home games at Hancock Stadium. Saturday the 'Birds will face Florida Atlantic in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. [See game notes.]
