Lincoln Christian College to host NCCAA volleyball championship     Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 29, 2003]  GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The National Christian College Athletic Association will have its Division II Women's Volleyball National Championship Nov. 6-8 at Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln.

The national championship will host approximately 120 student-athletes plus coaching staff and fans from NCCAA colleges and universities across the country. LCC's volleyball team will be among the participating teams volleying for the 2003 national title.

"We're excited to hold the NCCAA volleyball championship in Lincoln," said Dan Wood, executive director of NCCAA. "Lincoln Christian's commitment to this tournament and the assistance of John Searby and Kevin Crawford of the Department of Physical Education in making this partnership a reality is greatly appreciated. We look forward to a successful event!"

The events will begin with a Christian service project on Wednesday, Nov. 5. NCCAA student-athletes will provide a free volleyball clinic for students at the Lutheran school. "This is an outstanding way in which LCC and the NCCAA can give back to the Lincoln community. We look forward to impacting the students there during this clinic," stated Kevin Crawford, LCC volleyball coach.

A banquet Wednesday night will follow the Christian service project. Jean Driscoll, a handicapped two-time Olympic medalist, will be the guest speaker, challenging the championship participants to excellence. Following the banquet will be a time of prayer and praise at LCC's Focus.

Games begin on Thursday, Nov. 6, in the LCC gymnasium. Championship brackets can be found at www.thenccaa.org; click on "Sports."

Headquartered in Greenville, S.C., the National Christian College Athletic Association is an organization of 108 Christ-centered colleges and universities with a mission of using athletic competition as an integral component of education, evangelism and encouragement. Founded in 1966, the NCCAA hosts 23 national championships and invitationals for men's and women's soccer, volleyball and basketball, football, cross country, track and field, indoor track and field, men's golf, tennis, baseball, and softball.
