[FEB. 18, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- The following statement from Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Senate Bill 2216, the creation of the Heartsaver AED Fund, was released Monday:

"Making sure automated external defibrillators are available at all physical fitness facilities is crucial to the health and safety of Illinois residents. Access to these machines will save lives across the state.

"This bill will enable those facilities that are required by law to have AED machines to apply for matching funds for their purchase through a fund administered by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

"I commend the lieutenant governor for taking the lead in creating the Heartsaver AED Fund. I am proud to sign this legislation and make these lifesaving devices more affordable."
