Kirkwood, Iowa,
ran its record to 1-0 with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Lincoln
College in softball action Wednesday afternoon in the final game of
the Florida trip for the Lynx. Due to rain, only one of the two
games scheduled was played. Lincoln College concludes the trip with

"We finally played the way we are
capable of," Lincoln coach John Andrews said. "We played tough
defense and hit the ball hard. Kelly (Nader) threw a great game,
keeping Kirkwood hitters at bay the whole game with a lot of
off-speed pitches. I think the girls realize now that they can play
with anyone if they do the right things. Kirkwood has a great
program, always playing in the national tournament."
The Lynx trailed 3-1 entering the
seventh inning and put up two runs to knot the score at 3-3;
however, Kirkwood pushed across a run in the bottom half of the
inning to earn the victory.
Lincoln College pounded out seven
hits, with Chonita Ziegler getting a pair of safeties. Tiffany
Tungate had a hit and drove in a pair of runs, while Maleaha
Hayward, Ashley Shaw, Sarah Franklin and Courtney Baughman each had
one hit.
Lincoln College 000 100 2 - 3 - 7 - 1
Kirkwood 102 000 1 - 4 - 6 - 1
Winner: Pershing. Loser: Nader.
