Groovy
shades and a cool drink on a hot, dry Fourth of
July. Who could want more? Wednesday,
in spite of the heat wave that has plagued
Lincoln and Logan County for several days,
dozens of youngsters turned out for the annual
Fourth of July old-fashioned walking parade. And of course, the thought of getting a good
soaking from the Lincoln Fire Department
at the end of the route was just an added perk.

actor Andy Griffith posing in Los Angeles to promote his
CBS-TV film, "Murder in Coweta County." Griffith, whose
homespun mix of humor and wisdom made "The Andy Griffith Show"
an enduring TV favorite, died Tuesday in Manteo,
N.C. He was 86.

Africa's Oscar Pistorius competes in a qualification round for the men's 4x400-meter
relay at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Double amputee
Pistorius has been selected for South Africa's Olympic 4x400 relay team.
