Melody
Shew and Angela Getchel from MKS Jewelers
recently attended the 2012 Retail Jewelers
Organization Fall Buying Show in
Milwaukee. MKS joined hundreds of
other jewelers from around the country to learn
about new trends, hear recommendations for
displaying jewelry, develop additional
management and sales skills, and network with
others in the industry.
In addition to staying ahead of trends, the show
also allows jewelers to purchase jewelry at
pre-negotiated prices, savings they can pass
along to their customers as the holidays
approach. The RJO show, themed "Rev It Up," since
Milwaukee is the international headquarters for
Harley-Davidson, reminded business owners to
think outside the box and be open to industry
changes.
“The selection and access to the jewelry here is
superb,” said Melody Shew of MKS Jewelers.
“But it’s the seminars, round-table discussions
and connections with like-minded individuals
that help us provide the best products and
services to our customers.”
For more information about MKS Jewelers or
to view some of their new purchases, visit them
at 614 Broadway in Lincoln.

A
life-sized cardboard cutout of actor Clint Eastwood next
to an empty chair is seen overlooking a freeway in
Glendale, Calif., on Tuesday. The chair is a
reference to Eastwood's 12-minute speech during last
week's Republican National Convention that drew both
criticism and praise for Eastwood. Life-sized cardboard
cutouts of Eastwood, John Wayne and Gene Autry have been
keeping watch over Glendale for months as part of an
effort by Los Angeles resident Justin Stadel to spur a
conversation about public art.

During
September, area churches are doing something new. The pastors are working together to author a series of sermons
that will be presented at the same time in each of their
respective churches. The idea behind the program is to
focus attention not on A church, but on THE church. Read
more about this in our Spiritual Life section below.

Former football player Michael
Strahan, right, poses Kelly Ripa on the set of the newly named
"Live! With Kelly and Michael" on Tuesday in New
York. Strahan joined the popular morning show as a permanent
co-host on Tuesday, fulfilling a joking prophecy he made to
Regis Philbin more than four years ago. The gap-toothed former
New York Giant jogged onto the morning show set and picked up
co-host Kelly Ripa in a bearhug, lifting her off her feet. He
replaces Philbin, who left last November. Strahan was the
survivor in a series of on-air tryouts of potential co-hosts
since Philbin left, and his hiring has been an open secret for
the past two weeks.
The
Lincoln High School cross country team had their first meet on Tuesday at
Olympia vs. Olympia and Heyworth. Four of the girls scored in the top 10 and one
boy also scored in the top 10, taking first. Read more about this in the
story below.
