The festival
committee would like to thank all the other event sponsors and
organizations because this festival could not happen without the
help of so many groups & individuals!
Randy
Grebke, of Kohnen Concrete Products, while on a
well-drilling site in Huey, Ill., demonstrates how he
locates underground water by holding a V-shaped tree
branch. Many
well drillers still witch or divine for water, Gebke
included. Some, like Gebke, use small wires; others have
a preference for a particular kind of wood. Many find
themselves busier than they have been in years as
drought grips much of the country.

A
couple of weeks ago LDN found this young group out in the heat
giving away cold drinks. The First United Methodist Church Kids
Club was also trying to do something good for one of their
teachers. While the drinks were free, the class was taking freewill donations that would later be given to
their teacher Katie Pezold, who was moving to Rhode Island with her
husband to start a new church. It's always good to
see our youngest generation getting involved in selfless acts
and reaching out to help others.

charge. The full text of the obituaries is available online free of
charge in Logan County and across the world. Email condolences are
available from subscribing funeral homes. Ask your funeral director
to make sure the obituary of your loved one is placed in Lincoln
Daily News.

shows author John Updike speaking during a panel discussion at BookExpo America 2006 in Washington. Updike's childhood home in
Pennsylvania has been purchased by a group that plans to restore
it and turn it into a museum. The John Updike Society bought the
home in Shillington, about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia,
for $180,000 on Monday. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author lived
there until he was 13.
The society hopes the 1900 house can be
preserved and re-created as it would have looked in Updike's
youth. Best known for his novels chronicling the life of
Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, Updike won Pulitzers for two of those
stories, "Rabbit Is Rich" and "Rabbit at Rest." He died in 2009
at age 76.
Pittsburgh
Pirates' Josh Harrison (5) looks to St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina
after colliding with him on a play at the plate in the second inning of the
baseball game on Tuesday in Pittsburgh. Harrison was out, but
Molina had to leave the game.
