The award is named for Joyce Hyde, who has attended the County Fair every year since its debut. Hyde says she was around four months old when she attended the first County Fair. This is the first year the award has been given.

It is not uncommon for a new venture to take a couple of years to gather steam and start rolling. That may have been the case this year at the Logan County Fair for the My Favorite Pie contest. This year, 11 contestants participated in the pie bake-off. On Saturday immediately after the annual chili cook-off, the pies were auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Organizers Jim and Rosemary Peek have assembled about a dozen gospel music groups for their own Gaither style Olde Time Gospel Homecoming at the Arlee Theater 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. This is a free event. Refreshment sales and a love offering will benefit the Arlee’s Save Our Seats campaign.  Pictured above is the gospel group "Saved by Grace", one of several groups who plan to perform.  Read more in the Food, Family & Fun section below.

Summer camp is a rite of passage for many kids in America. Lincoln Christian University (LCU) has been part of that heritage for more than 25 years, hosting summer sports camps annually throughout June and July. For four weeks, an otherwise quiet campus is quickened again with the voices and energy of junior high and high school athletes practicing and playing basketball, volleyball and soccer.  Read more about the event held this year in the story below.
