Thousands of acres of Logan County farm fields have been impacted by recent rains. Here in line with Lincoln Lakes a few miles south of Lincoln, Salt Creek has repeatedly breached its banks. Not all of the field flooding is related to streams. Heavy rains have led to debris blocking drainage, flooding roadways and keeping soils saturated. Throughout the county fields are showing signs of stress with patchy shades of green, indicating an anticipated reduced yield, and some acres have been long lost.

Friday Annie Coers, pictured right, of New Holland has been recognized by the Illinois State Fair Museum Foundation as an “Illinoisan of the Day” for 2015.

The Illinoisan of the Day program honors individuals who exemplify the qualities and characteristics associated with the Land of Lincoln: Integrity, dependability, sense of community, and strong ethics. She was recognized on July 11 at the seventh annual Corn Dog Kickoff and will receive additional recognition during the Illinois State Fair.
