Pictured
above on the far right is a glimpse of the Tropics
Restaurant sign with one side of the skin removed.
This shot taken last fall shows what became a
concern of the Route 66 Association of Illinois. The
Association representative Martin Blitstein had been
told the sign was now lying in pieces in the city
landfill. Blitstein took that to mean the sign had
been discarded. On Tuesday night he came to the
Lincoln City Council offering to take the sign to
Pontiac, restore it, and place it in the Route 66
Museum. The council reassured Blitstein the sign had
not been discarded, but was being stored where space
allowed at the landfill. Discussions on the future
of the sign will continue April 14th.
