On Monday evening, city of Lincoln aldermen nominated and elected Martha "Marty" Neitzel to serve as Acting Mayor. The nomination was made by Ward 3 Alderwoman Jonie Tibbs and seconded by Ward 2 Alderwoman Michelle Bauer. The motion carried with a 6-0-1 vote. Neitzel abstained. With the official title of Acting Mayor, Neitzel has the option to maintain her position as Ward 4 alderman and vote as an alderman at council meetings. She may also elect to replace herself in Ward 4. On Monday evening, she did not indicate what her intentions are for the aldermanic position. Neitzel will serve out the term of office originally vacated early this year by former Mayor Keith Snyder. The next mayoral election will be held in 2017.
