At
the Tuesday evening meeting of the
Lincoln City Council, Angela
Stoltzenburg with the Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital Community Health
Collaborative addressed the council. She
brought a proposal for the use of a very
small corner of the former ALMH building
site on Eighth Street for an outdoor
workout center. The CHC has been
approached by the National Fitness
Campaign to build a fully equipped
"fitness mat" in Lincoln. The cost would
be $150,000 with the CHC picking up
$140,000 of the bill and a grant through
"FitRadio" for $10,000 picking up the
balance. The city would be asked to pay
for power washing the mat as part of its
maintenance at an estimated cost of
$1,000-2,000 per year. Questions were
asked about liability insurance and
putting lighting on the mat for
night-time use. The council gave a nod
of approval for Stoltzenburg continuing
to research and organize the project.
