For
this edition of the pink shirt pictures, we are super-sizing the
shots on our front page. There are eight pictures with 194 people
from children to senior citizens featured. That is a lot of pictures
and a lot of people who are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month
and we appreciate them all.
Speaking of numbers, there are new numbers released just this month
from the American Cancer society regarding breast cancer
occurrences:
"By the end of 2019, an estimated 268,600 women and 2,670 men will
be diagnosed with breast cancer. An estimated 41,760 women and 500
men will die from it. Breast cancer risk generally increases with
age. About eight of every 10 new breast cancer cases and nine of
every 10 deaths are in women 50 years old and older."
Thank you to the staff of Adams School, Northwest School and
Washington-Monroe School; the students of Washington-Monroe, the
administrative staff at the District 27 office, members of the Oasis
Senior Center and the Lincoln Rotary Club, and the staff and
residents of Christian Village for helping to raise awareness for
breast cancer.
