Today we have four local businesses showing off their pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month. The month of October is set aside for breast cancer awareness and those who support the initiative wear pink on Fridays. However, some of our supporters wear Pink multiple days of the week during the month to show that they are sincere in their support.

We appreciate all that they do to show they care about the warriors in this terrible disease. The American Cancer Society also cares. The organization spends millions of dollars annually to fund research grants and offer free services to warriors. They also provide vital information to assist in the early detection and even prevention of breast cancer.

One firefighter on a ladder and two on a platform battle a fire through a hole in the dryer at Kruger Elevator located north of Lincoln on the Parkway.

The fire was reported just as dusk was upon the community on Tuesday night. Lincoln Rural was called to the scene with support offered from several other local departments. Vehicle traffic was reduced to one lane on the southbound side of the highway.

A call went out to request that trains coming through slow to a crawl to assure the safety of firefighters working close to the tracks. At 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday there was no information available concerning the severity of the fire or losses incurred.

On Wednesday, October 16th, the community is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Comfort Inn and Suites in Lincoln. The owners have spent the last year doing a complete remodel and re-branding of the motel that was formerly Holiday Inn Express. They and their staff are excited to show it off to the community.

The ribbon cut will be held at 9 a.m. with tours of the newly remodeled facility offered after the cut. Please join owners Lynn Paulus, Jenna Beyers, and management staff Damon Priddy and Tina Simpson to celebrate this new chapter for the popular motel.
