In this photo, do you see that white helmet next to the dog on the ground? Well, that helmet is attached to the head of Patrick Armitage, a 1993 Lincoln Community High School graduate, now living in Florida.

Armitage is a fire medic at the South Walton Fire District. The dog had fallen into a 15 feet deep hole and was trapped, unable to save itself.

Armitage put on a harness and was lowered into the hole by fellow firefighters. He secured the dog, and both were pulled back up out of the hole.

Armitage said it was quite the experience and the dog was very grateful. "He stood on his back paws and leaned into my chest."

The rescue was filmed, and recently the video and a feature about Armitage was aired on a Chicago television station. Armitage said he thought maybe some of the folks in Lincoln would like to see the photos.

He noted that he keeps track of his hometown because, "Even though I left, I still have love for the hometown."
