On Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that the skilled nursing facilities at Christian Village in Lincoln will close on September 8, 2023. This includes the long-term nursing care facility, the Grace Pointe rehab to home facility and the memory care facility.

The assisted living apartments and the independent living community will NOT close.

Tuesday night, Mayor Tracy Welch reported that in a conversation with regional leadership at Christian Homes he was told that this is part of a re-organization plan, and that the expectation is that at some point in the future a different version of the skilled nursing programs at Christian Village will return. Welch was told that staff and residents and families will be offered other options for jobs and care facilities as part of the shutdown.

He was also advised that Christian Homes will keep the city up to speed on the reorganization and the future of the skilled nursing portion of the Lincoln campus as details develop.

On the 4th of July, Starkey Acres in Lincoln celebrated in the same way it has since the 1980’s with a morning parade around the community.

The event has been an annual tradition stopped only by rain. Even Covid 19 did not stop this close knit community from upholding the tradition. After the parade, refreshments were served to everyone in the driveway of Craig and Denise Farnam.
