The 6-foot Bruzdzinski pounded 375
kills to help the Huskies reach the Class AA state quarterfinals.
"As talented as the team was (with five
Division I scholarship athletes), she was still a player observers
would watch and say, 'What a great player,'" said St. Charles East
coach Jennie Kull. "She's a special player, not a selfish player.
She does it all."
Others earning first-team recognition
for the second consecutive year were Anna-Jonesboro's Kassie Drew,
Mount Pulaski's Bethany Dulle, Sandburg's Sarah Kwasigroch and
Belleville Althoff's Sara Thomas. Drew and Dulle were two of four
Class A athletes chosen for the first team. The first unit consisted
of 16 seniors, 15 of whom have committed to a Division I university,
and two junior setters, Kwasigroch and Barrington's Nellie Spicer.
State championship teams Joliet
Catholic Academy in AA and Mount Pulaski in A had a combined three
selections. Dulle was the Hilltoppers' representative. The AA
titlists were represented by Maggie Karges and Allie Quigley.
The first team, second team and special
mention lists follow. In all, 184 athletes statewide received
recognition.
