Accardo pitched this summer for the
Athletes in Action baseball team in the Alaska Summer Baseball
League. He played both pitcher and shortstop and was clocked in the
mid-90s by scouts.
The Mesa, Ariz., native will leave the
Redbird program after three years. He was coming off arguably his
best season, when he hit .333 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. As a
pitcher, he led the team with four saves and posted a record of 4-2
with an ERA of 5.94.
His four saves in the 2003 season made
him the all-time saves leader in Illinois State history, with a
career total of 12.
Accardo was
named the most valuable player on the Illinois State baseball team
in 2003. He was also a first team all-Missouri Valley shortstop and
a second team member of the ABCA all-Midwest squad.
