Earl Emmons

Earl E. Emmons, 81, of Lincoln died Monday (Aug. 18, 2003) at 2:55 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation was on Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral was Wednesday morning at Faith Assembly of God in Lincoln, with the Rev. David Andreasen officiating.

Burial, with military rites, was in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mr. Emmons retired in 1996 as a salesman for Illico Independent Oil Co. in Lincoln.

He was a veteran who had served with the military police at Franklin D. Roosevelt's home at Hyde Park, N.Y.

He was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Ottawa, Kan., to Earl and Martha Britten Emmons. His stepfather was Louis Schaub, who raised him.

He married Betty Swingle on Jan. 13, 1945, in Atlanta, and she died Nov. 1, 1990. He married Nora Woodard on Oct. 12, 1991, in Lincoln. She survives.

Other survivors are two daughters, Linda (and Dale) Willhite of Sherrard and Susan (and Guy) Williamson of Lincoln; one stepson, Richard (and Mary Kay) Woodard of Pekin; two stepdaughters, Anita (and Marshall) Miller of Lincoln and Donna Vannoy of Atlanta; five grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Riley Schaub of Aurora, Mo., and Paul Schaub of Lincoln.

He was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Lincoln, American Legion Post 263 and AMVETS.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Maple Ridge Health Care Centre.

Garry Coers

Garry R. Coers, 61, of New Holland died Monday (Aug. 18, 2003) at 2 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at New Holland Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Rettig officiating.

Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Mr. Coers was former owner and operator of New Holland Feed and Fertilizer and worked for the Illinois Lottery as a truck driver. He was also a volunteer for the New Holland Fire Department.

He was born Sept. 21, 1941, in Lincoln to Harry R. and Jannette M. Wibben Coers. He married Joann Judy on April 8, 1961, in Lincoln.

Survivors are his wife, of New Holland; his mother, of New Holland; one son, Kevin L. (and Mila) Coers of Chestnut; one daughter, Melissa (and Todd) Davis of New Holland; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Larry, Andrew and Abby Coers, all of Chestnut, and Jonathan, Reiley and Nick Davis, all of New Holland; and one brother, David L. (and Roseann) Coers of New Holland.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a member of New Holland United Methodist Church, Gold Wing Riders Club and Land of Lincoln Antique Tractor Club.

Memorials may be made to New Holland Methodist Church or New Holland Fire Department.

Betty Elliott

Betty Marie Elliott, 80, of Lincoln, formerly of Richton Park, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at 4:39 p.m. at her home.

She was cremated, and there will be no services.

Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln handled arrangements.

Mrs. Elliott retired from Governor’s State University in University Park in 1989.

She was born March 21, 1923, in Carbondale to Richard Vanden and Ruby Strole Cherry. She married Robert W. Elliott on Nov. 1, 1968, in Chicago. He died Feb. 21, 1998.

Survivors are one daughter, Barbara Raney Follis of Lincoln; one son, Gerald L. Cook of Monee; two stepchildren, Cherelynn Elliott and R. John Elliott, both of Palos Park; six grandchildren, Vincent Turner of Lyons, Martha and Sarah Cook of Monee, Jeff Follis of Simi, Calif., and Cody and Cegan Follis of Lincoln; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Robert Elliott, and by her oldest daughter, Sally J. Turner, who died in 1974.

She was a member of the National Order of Alley Cats, an auxiliary of the National Order of Trench Rats (Disabled American Veterans Organization), and had served one term as the Golden Cat of her local chapter.


M. Velma Everist

M. Velma Everist, 88, of Lincoln, formerly of Easton, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at 1:10 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City, with Chaplain Todd Phelps officiating. Visitation was on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Easton Cemetery.

Mrs. Everist had owned and operated Everist TV in Easton.

She was born Oct. 31, 1914, in Easton to James and Clara Scott Hall. She married Otto Everist in Kentucky in January of 1938. He died Nov. 3, 1985.

Survivors are one son, Don Everist of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter, Norma Maslowski of Haddenfield, N.J.; and three sisters, Hazel Marie Hansen of East Moline, Dorothy Eileen Armstead of Boulder, Colo., and Betty Jean White of Noblesville, Ind.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She was a member of Easton Methodist Church and Menard Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Village in Lincoln.

 

Wilson 'Doo' Rademaker

Wilson "Doo" Rademaker, 87, of Emden died Monday (Aug. 18, 2003) at 8:26 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

A private graveside service, with military rites, will be on Thursday at Green Hill Cemetery, rural San Jose. The Rev. Doug Rettig will officiate.

Mr. Rademaker retired in 1980. He had worked with the construction of post offices in various Illinois locations, was a field auditor for the state of Illinois and had previously been a partner in Emden Hardware Company.

During World War II, he served 3½ years at New Caledonia, Guadacanal and Treasure Island in the South Pacific.

He was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Emden to Tobias V. and Lydia Van Hilson Rademaker. He married Jeanette Schroeder on March 31, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holland.

Surviving are his wife, of Emden; two daughters, Meta (and Michael) Dalton of Evanston and Billie (and John) Columbo of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren, Jordan and Jennifer Dalton of Chicago and Samantha Spencer of Vancouver, Wash., and two stepgrandchildren, Jonquil Martinez and Jessica Columbo, both of Vancouver, Wash.; and a stepsister, Alice Rademaker of Washington, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church of Emden and a 50-year member of American Legion Post 506.

He attended Emden schools and Eureka College.

He was an avid sports fan and supporter of Hartem teams.

Mona Wolcott

Mona I. Wolcott, 92, of Mount Pulaski, formerly of Lake City, Fla., died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) at 2:27 p.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Bill Shanle officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mrs. Wolcott was co-owner of Culligan of Mount Pulaski and was a registered nurse for Dr. Cross and Dr. Borgerson in Mount Pulaski.

She was born March 27, 1911, in Decatur to Samuel and Amy Mann Turpin. She married George F. Wolcott in Webster Grove, Mo., on May 17, 1935. He died in June of 1971.

Surviving are one son, George F. (and Cynthia) Wolcott Jr. of Lake City, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Mount Pulaski, Lincoln Elks Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Ethyl Bennett

Ethyl I. Bennett, 100, of Atlanta, formerly of Emden, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) at 1 p.m. at Hopedale Hospital in Hopedale.

Mrs. Bennett's funeral was Wednesday morning at the Emden Christian Church, with Lance Macormic officiating. Visitation preceded the service.

Burial is in Bethel Cemetery, rural Emden.

Quiram Funeral Home of Atlanta handled arrangements.

She was employed at Gupton's Dry Goods Store in Emden for 18 years and later was switchboard operator at the Emden Telephone Company for 18 years.

She was born Aug. 1, 1903, near Emden in Boynton Township, Tazewell County, to Allie and Cora Scott Short.

She married Earl M. Bennett of Delavan on Jan. 5, 1922. This union ended in 1929. After 45 years they remarried, on April 8, 1975, and moved to Wisconsin, where she became a welcomed member of a large extended family and a second mother to seven children. Earl died in 1983. Ethyl moved back to Illinois in 1996 and resided at Atlanta Manor.

Survivors are Robert (and Carol) Bennett of Beldenville, Wis., Jean (and Howard) Robey, Betty (and Ralph) DeRoy, Donna (and Jerry) Wilkens and James Bennett, all of River Falls, Wis., Richard (and Mary) Bennett and Dean (and Patsy) Bennett of Luck, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence, and three nephews.

She became a member of the Emden Christian Church at an early age, served in various offices for many years and had been a member of the Women's Council.

She was a charter member of Emden American Legion Auxiliary Unit 506 and had served as president of the unit, president of the Logan County Council and chaplain of the 17th District.

She was secretary of the Bethel Cemetery Association for 27 years.

She attended school in Emden.

Memorials may be made to the Emden Christian Church or the repair fund for Bethel Church.
