Internet dairy classes offered     Send a link to a friend

[DEC. 22, 2003]  URBANA -- Two University of Illinois Internet classes on dairy topics begin the last week in January. The classes target applied dairy feeding and milking management information for dairy producers, veterinarians, feed consultants and educators.

"The unique feature is you 'go to class' whenever you have time during the week, as all lectures are recorded and can be heard on your computer," said Mike Hutjens, U of I Extension dairy specialist who will teach one of the classes. "One night a week a one-hour session is held to answer questions, discuss homework and update material."

Hutjens is teaching AnSci 373 -- Advanced Dairy Nutrition. U of I Extension specialist Geoff Dahl will teach AnSci 375 -- Milk Secretion, Mastitis and Quality. Enrollment in each class is limited to 25 individuals.

Students can either enroll in the classes for college credits or audit. Each class runs 10 weeks with homework and a take-home exam for those enrolled for credit.
