Lincoln off to a good start in
the speech season

[NOV. 3, 2003]  The 2003-2004 season started off extremely well for this year's speech team at Lincoln Community High School. The varsity team finished third and the novice team finished second at the ISU tournament. Overall, the team was third in team sweepstakes.

Leading the team was sophomore Lindsey Boerma, who finished third in humorous interpretation and humorous duet with Doug Rohrer. Lindsey also made semifinals in special occasion speaking and dramatic interpretation and finished sixth overall in the triathalon at the tournament.

Other team members placing were Erica Brickey, second in verse; Brian Welter, third in radio and original comedy; Katie Muck, fourth in dramatic interpretation; Tom Swanson, fourth in special occasion; and Audrey Beach, sixth in oratory.

Lincoln semifinalists included Doug Rohrer, Erica Brickey, Katie Muck, Tom Swanson, Kasey Pepperell, Brady Gerdts, Audrey Beach, Amy Schumacher and Ruth Ohmart.

Novice finalists were Rachel Kasa, second in prose and verse; Rebecca Rogers, sixth in prose; Rachel Hahn, fourth in original comedy; Patrick Perry, fifth in humorous interpretation; Adrienne Hildebrandt, fifth in radio; Andrew Kleinman, fifth in special occasion; Brandon Rahn, fifth in impromptu; and Kathryn O'Donoghue, sixth in dramatic interpretation.

Coaches Ed Jodlowski and Carrie Schreiber were elated about the team's finish. The first tournament is always a little shaky, but after performing a number of times this weekend, the team is already better. Next week they will travel to Normal West.
