Police chief wants kids at station
this Saturday
Chief Richard Montcalm announced that
the Lincoln City Police Department is hosting an open house as part
of National Crime Prevention Week. The police department, which is
located at 911 Pekin St., will be open this Saturday, Oct. 25, from
9 to 11 a.m.
Chief Montcalm said he especially would
like to have the kids come by. They can sit in a squad car, learn a
little about the equipment in it and see what goes on. He hopes that
a lot of kids will come and that they will really enjoy it.
Don't push those
leaves into the street
New Lincoln Streets Superintendent
Tracy Jackson says he hopes people will stop pushing their leaves
into the streets. There are some people already doing that.
There was a time when the city was able
to help citizens with their leaf cleanup. If they just pushed them
into the streets, the sweeper picked them up.
"I'd love to be able to pick
everybody's leaves up, but we just can't do that," Jackson said.

This year the streets department is
down by two men. Streets, fire and police departments are all
suffering shortages since last spring's layoffs. Each of those
departments laid off two men in May due to reduced city revenue. All
three departments are operating at minimum work force.
Leaf pickup is an extra benefit that
just can't be afforded at this time.
Jackson is urging residents not to push
leaves into the streets. It is against the city ordinance.
Seniors in need
of meals
Council
member Marty Neitzel said she has been informed that there are local
senior citizens who are in need of weekend meals. She is asking the
city to consider sponsoring meals for one or two seniors. The cost
to supply two meals each weekend for one person is $260 per year.
