CHICAGO -- On Monday
Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich accepted the resignation of Michael Fenger,
director of the Illinois Department of Labor. Fenger sent a letter
of resignation to the governor on Monday announcing his decision to
leave his post effective immediately to accept a position as a
pension fund manager at Vestor Capital Corporation in Lake Forest.

In his resignation letter,
Fenger noted: "It has been a pleasure working for Governor
Blagojevich as the director of labor, enforcing the state's
important labor laws. While this has been a rewarding assignment, it
has also been an enormous undertaking, given the state's fiscal
crisis and the need for all state agencies to do more with less.
Being director has meant long hours and time away from home and
family, and after several months on the job, I feel my efforts will
be better spent working for union members in a new capacity."
Assistant Director Esther Lopez
will serve as acting director of the Department of Labor while a
search is conducted for a new director. Lopez most recently worked
for the AFL-CIO in Washington, D.C., in the Field Mobilization
Department.
