[MARCH 25, 2005]  BEASON -- Two Beason family farms have acquired the distinction of being a Centennial Farm. State Rep. Bill Mitchell presented the Darvin and Tammy Robinson and Marvin and Gail Robinson families with the award signage offered through the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

The Darvin and Tammy Robinson farm is in Barnett Township, DeWitt County. The property was acquired April 7, 1904, by David Robinson, Darvin's great-great-grandfather. Andrew Robinson, Darvin's great-grandfather, became the owner in 1917. Vernet Robinson, Darvin's grandfather, became the owner in 1980. Darvin acquired the property in 1998.

The Marvin and Gail Robinson farm is also in Barnett Township, DeWitt County, and has been designated as a Centennial Farm. The property was acquired April 7, 1904, by David Robinson, Marvin's great-grandfather. Andrew Robinson, Marvin's grandfather, became the owner in 1917. Vernet Robinson, Marvin's father, became the owner in 1980. Marvin acquired the property in 1984.

The Centennial Farm program helps to reinforce that family farming remains a viable entity in Illinois agriculture.

To be eligible for a centennial sign, the agricultural property must have been owned by a straight or collateral line of descendants of the original owner for at least 100 years.
