kindergarten class from
Washington-Monroe School to have a
picnic. The youngsters had their
lunch in the shade of the trees at
Scully Park. Later in the day, a
whopper of a rainstorm changed the
landscape of the town from warm and
sunny to water everywhere. See

This
image made from video released by British Petroleum shows equipment being used to try
to plug a
gushing oil well in the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday during a maneuver known as a "top kill" that
has never before been tried 5,000 feet underwater. The
oil giant's chief executive earlier gave the procedure a
60 to 70 percent chance of working, and President Barack
Obama cautioned Wednesday that there were "no guarantees."

The spillway leading to the
sewer plant was a torrent of churning water yesterday afternoon.
Depending on where you lived, up to 2 inches of rain fell in just
over a half-hour. Some parts of the county, however, received just a
sprinkle.
