Demolition of
the two-story portion of the former Elkhart Grade School began Tuesday by Jayco
Construction. Elkhart Christian Church purchased
the old school building last year for the purpose of turning the
building into the new location for Elkhart Christian Church to meet.
Plans call for the building to be completely handicapped-accessible,
providing many expanded ministry opportunities for the community.
Demolition is expected to take three weeks, after which the congregation
will rehab the one-story section of the building. Reconstruction
is scheduled to be finished by Christmas.

The
Statue of Liberty is reopening July 4, after Liberty Island flooded during Superstorm Sandy, and tickets for the ferry ride to the island are now on sale.
The statue has been closed since Sandy struck the region on Oct. 29 and damaged
much of the island's infrastructure. The statue itself is on higher ground and
was not damaged.

In
this photo taken April 29, Robert Edsel, founder of the Monuments Men
Foundation for the Preservation of Art, poses for a photo at his organization's
office in Dallas. Edsel started his foundation in 2007 to honor and continue the
work of the Monuments Men, the roughly 345 men and women from 13 nations who
helped protect cultural treasures during World War II.
