The
votes have been counted, and the winner of the 2019 Holiday Express
Gingerbread Contest is Miss Emily Lund's Kindergarten Class from
Carroll Catholic School in Lincoln. The little gingerbread community
with several small homes, marshmallow snowmen and dogs, a starlight
mint sidewalk with candy cane lamp posts caught the attention of many
and earned the majority vote. The voting was done as a 'people's
choice,' so everyone who came into the Logan County Tourism Bureau
Depot on Small Business Saturday and the week following had the
opportunity to vote for their favorite creation.
Miss Lund's class will receive a lovely trophy that they can proudly
display in their classroom.
The gingerbread contest was a great addition to the Small Business
Saturday, and it is hoped that this will become a tradition that
grows year after year.

This
Christmas there is a very special holiday display, actually several
of them, in the Carnegie building of the Lincoln Public Library.
Library staff member Deb Owens worked to bring the days of old back
to the library with displays featuring people in party attire that
would have been worn in 1902, the year the building was erected.
Owens wanted the displays to be a 'last holiday' gift for the
library’s soon to be retired Director Richard Sumrall and Assistant
Director Sue Rehtmeyer.
