Silent
auction under way
[MAY
7, 2003]
Your American Cancer Society
is pleased to announce the sixth annual Relay For Life of Logan
County. The event will kick off on Friday, May 9, at 8 p.m. and
close at noon on Saturday, May 10, at the Laughlin Center at Lincoln
Christian College and Seminary. The Relay For Life is the American
Cancer Society's signature event. It is truly a celebration of
cancer survivorship and an outstanding way to honor those who have
triumphed over cancer and to remember those we have lost to the
disease.

This year's event has many new exciting
auction items, including an official basketball signed by Brian Cook
and a handmade angel afghan made by Donna Becke. The variety of
items may be seen and a bid may be placed at Union Planters Bank and
State Bank of Lincoln until May 9. The items will be at the Relay
For Life and a final bid will be there on May 10.
Activities Friday, May 9, will open at
8 p.m. with music by Joe Hackett-Music 4U DJ Service. Students from
Jefferson Street Christian Church, United Methodist Church, Trinity
Episcopal Church, and Lincoln Christian College and Seminary will
walk from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
Saturday, May 10, at 8 a.m. the
survivor registration will begin. The survivor lap, a celebration of
survivorship, will begin at 8:30 a.m. All participating survivors
will receive a medallion for first-year participation and past
participants will receive a special pin. Entertainment will continue
until the luminaria ceremony at 11 a.m. As the candles are
glowing, the names will be read of those who have survived cancer or
